Meet our Personal Trainers

Ian Kirwan

Ian Kirwan has completed a 4 year Level 8 Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science and Physical Activity in Dundalk IT and will be beginning a Masters in Public Health & Nutrition in UCD in September.

A former member of the Irish Judo Association and gold medallist in the Leinster Open 2009 Under 21 category, Ian has a special interest in mixed martial arts, having trained in this discipline for a number of years.

A qualified Active IQ Level 3 Personal trainer and Fitness instructor and Reps accredited Circuit Trainer; this allows Ian to teach some of his favourite classes such as Bootcamp and Boxfit classes.

Ian has more recently worked closely with both physical and intellectual disabilities with organisations such as the Irish wheelchair association and the National Learning Network respectively, teaching classes and undertaking one to one sessions with members. It is Ian’s belief that every individual should have an equal opportunity to participate in sport and to lead a healthier, fitter lifestyles regardless of their ability level.

Ian has previously worked voluntarily in community gyms in the Ballymun area, helping young adults and teenagers to improve themselves and their lives through fitness and health, something he found a very rewarding and satisfying role.

Motivated to help people become the strongest versions of themselves, Ian enjoys seeing clients making progressive gains in their overall health and fitness levels with his guidance.

Fiona Halligan

Fitness instructor Fiona Halligan graduated from Athlone Institute of Technology with a degree in Business, Tourism, Sport & Hospitality.

Qualified as an ITEC instructor as well as an ACE Personal Trainer, Fiona graduated in 2003 and has been working in the health industry ever since, with 10 years of training clients varying from locations such as Offaly, Laois, Dublin and Athlone to a period spent in Australia.

Fiona has a keen personal interest in swimming and cycling, with her goal of one day cycling from Dublin to Galway for charity. Fiona has spent many years cultivating her experience through a variety of classes and exercise techniques such as TRX, Spinning and Kettlebells. During 2006 Fiona assisted in a weight loss programme for Nationwide in Portlaoise, helping people achieve their goals through mental and physical well-being, an important experience in shaping her approach to client motivation. As the resident swim teacher, Fiona has a passion to help people achieve their best whether in the pool or in the gym. She is constantly looking for ways to update her skills and bring the next level of training to her clients.

George Boylan

George Boylan is an outgoing energetic person who loves health & fitness. He gets great satisfaction from members achieving goals. He is very passionate about health & fitness and is always progressing his knowledge in this area.

George holds a NCEF diploma from the University of Limerick, certificates with PFS as an Olympic weight lifting coach, Strength & Condition, Personal training, kettlebells and Pilates. George is also a qualified lifeguard and swim teacher with IWS and has a certificate with ITEC for Sports massage which means he is trained for neuromuscular therapy.

George is a 4 times Irish boxing champion and 4 times Dublin boxing champion. He has represented his country in many competitions including the European championship.

George has worked with many clients and has implemented small changes to their habits and routines. His clients have seen changes in their body and with his swim clients he has showed them ways of getting over their fears of the water.”

Breffini Twohig

Breffini Twohig was awarded a 4 year athletic scholarship to Providence College Rhode Island in 2006. For 4 years she competed at cross country, outdoor track and indoor track whilst studying towards her degree. Through her athletic career, Breffini has represented Ireland in 7 European Championships and various international events in cross country and track throughout Europe.

Breffini obtained her NEFPC EFQ Level 4 personal training, fitness instruction and group instruction qualifications in 2012. She completed workshops including kettle bells, bootcamp, spinning, strongman training and suspension training. Diving straight into the fitness industry in 2013, Breffini started working with people to help them achieve their goals, change their lifestyle and enjoy fitness.

Breffini has worked with many clients of different ages, capabilities and different goals. Her holistic approach allows her clients to improve not only their physical health but also their emotional wellbeing. She is happy to work with anyone who wants to change or improve their lifestyles. This will all be achieved through a personalised guided nutrition plan, personalised fitness program and a positive mental attitude.

Philip Byrne

Philip is a qualified Personal trainer & Pilates instructor awarded through the NCEF (University of Limerick).  In addition to this he has extensive experience teaching kettle bells, spin, aqua aerobics, circuit and boxercise classes.

Philip strongly believes in the benefits of resistance and interval training and these are his preferred methods to obtain a high fitness level . Underlying this philosophy is the belief that goals can only be attained with hard work.

His programs are designed in a personalised manner  to ensure that his clients will build confidence and maintain motivation levels towards their goals.  Philip has an approachable and friendly nature and he easily builds a strong rapport with his clients  – this allows him to gain important insights into his clients enabling him set both challenging but achievable targets to work towards.

Philip takes pride in his own professional development and is committed to provide the best possible service as a personal trainer. In his free time, Philip is focused on his own fitness and wellbeing and is constantly researching new methods to further enhance and develop his knowledge in the resistance and high intensity training area.
